Sheds / Garages / Outbuildings We urge all residents to keep their sheds, garages & outbuildings locked at all times, especially when not in use. They often contain valuable tools, bikes, or expensive equipment that are attractive targets for thieves. 👮♂️ Crime Prevention Tips: • Use robust security padlocks or deadlocks on doors, consider a surface mounted garage door lock. • Fit an alarm system, motion sensor lighting and/ or CCTV • Keep expensive items secured inside using lockable cabinets, ground anchors, or chains. • Consider trackers for high value machinery. • Avoid leaving tools or ladders outside - they can be used to gain access to your property. • Mark valuable items with your postcode using a UV pen or property marking system. DNA marking kits can be collected from Hastings or Battle Police stations free of charge. • Register valuable equipment at https://orlo.uk/wsg5o to help police return stolen items if recovered. Let’s work together to make our sheds, garages & outbuildings as difficult to access and unattractive to criminals as possible. See or hear anything suspicious, call 101, for crime in progress, call 999 immediately.

🚓 Top Tips to Stop Vehicle Break‑Ins As your local neighbourhood policing team, we want to help you keep your vehicle, and your belongings safe. Most vehicle break‑ins are opportunistic, and small changes can make a big difference. Here are our five top tips: 1. Always lock your vehicle Even if you’re parking on your driveway, outside your home, or only leaving the car for a moment, make sure all doors, windows and the boot are locked. Offenders will try door handles looking for an easy opportunity. 2. Remove valuables, or anything that looks valuable Never leave items such as wallets, handbags, laptops, phones, tools or shopping bags in you vehicle or on display. Even a coat or empty bag can make a criminal think there’s something worth stealing inside. 3. Keep keys safe and away from doors or windows Keyless entry vehicles are particularly vulnerable. Store keys well away from the front door and consider using a signal‑blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) to prevent relay theft. 4. Park smart Choose well‑lit, busy areas whenever possible. If you have a driveway, consider using outdoor lighting or CCTV as a deterrent. Criminals prefer dark, quiet spots where they won’t be seen. 5. Don’t leave your vehicle running unattended If you’re defrosting your car or popping back into the house, switch the engine off, take the keys with you and lock the vehicle. Many thefts happen while vehicles are left running, even for a few seconds. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to us straight away on 101.
Drink or Drug Driving? It’s NEVER worth it. ✅ Plan ahead, book a taxi or arrange a lift. Your choice. Your responsibility. Don’t risk it.
🌼The daffs are out – spring is officially here! Before you rev off into the sunshine, give your bike a little TLC, especially if it’s been sitting out the colder months. A few quick checks now can make sure your first ride of the season is a safe and enjoyable one: 🔧Pre‑ride check‑in: Even when the sun’s shining, remember to ride to the weather and road conditions. Months of rain have left many roads in a sorry state (yes… potholes, we’re looking at you!). And those early mornings can still bring unexpected frost or icy patches, so stay sharp. 👀And for all other road users: Let’s make this spring a safe one for everyone on the road. 🌼🏍️ Stay alert, stay safe, and enjoy the ride!
Any motorcyclist who has been involved in a collision is invited to apply for this free rider safety course, which offers practical, professional training aimed at reducing the risk of future collisions. By taking part, riders can develop skills and confidence to help keep themselves safer on the road, while also helping us shape a programme that could benefit motorcyclists nationally. PC Steve Bucksey from the Sussex Police Road Safety Team and leading the programme said: “Motorcycling offers a sense of freedom and excitement, but we recognise that collisions can happen, and when they do, the difference between a minor injury and a life-changing or fatal outcome can be incredibly small.” What does it involve? Over the weekend of 24–26 April, officers across Hastings & Rother were actively working to keep our communities safe. Sadly, nine people were arrested for suspected drink or drug driving. These offences are taken extremely seriously due to the significant risk they pose to members of the public. One individual was also arrested for dangerous driving. In total, 36 arrests were made during the weekend, including: Our officers remain committed to protecting the public, supporting victims, and ensuring that those who commit offences are dealt with robustly. We will continue to take swift and decisive action against individuals who put others at risk. Thank you to our communities for your continued support and for working with us to keep Hastings & Rother safe.
On Tuesday, neighbourhood officers responded to a report of a large tree that had fallen in Gensing Gardens. Due to concerns that it could fall further and pose a risk to London Road, a temporary road closure was put in place to keep the public safe while the situation was assessed. While speaking with the specialist responsible for dismantling the tree, we learned that it was sadly the last remaining mature English Elm on borough land. It was a poignant moment for everyone involved, highlighting both the importance of public safety and the loss of a small but significant part of our local natural heritage.
Hastings Patrols Our neighbourhood policing team was out on foot across Hastings this week, speaking with local residents, shoppers, and businesses. Regular patrols like these help us stay connected with the community and keep a visible presence in the area. We are aware of several businesses breaks in Hastings Town Centre and Old Town. Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop and talk with us, these conversations help us understand what’s happening locally. While we’re out on patrol regularly, we can’t be everywhere at once. Your information helps us build a clearer picture of what’s going on, so if you see or hear anything suspicious, please let us know.
Officers were deployed to Hastings town centre on the morning of 17 April after receiving reports that a man wanted on warrant had been seen in the area. The man had been recalled to prison on 10 April for failing to attend appointments with his supervising officer and continuing to display poor behaviour while on licence. Officers quickly located the man in the town centre. As officers stopped their vehicle, he made off on foot in an attempt to evade arrest. Following a short foot pursuit, officers-maintained sight and successfully detained him. The man, aged 47, of London Road, Bexhill, was arrested, taken into police custody and returned to the nearest prison.
Traffic Reined In on A21 Our Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Team were called to Kent Street on the A21 following reports of a broken‑down car and horsebox. Officers were quickly on scene and worked with the driver to safely escort the vehicle away from the road, helping to ensure a stable outcome for the driver, the horses, and other road users. Once everything was safely resolved and traffic flowing again, officers couldn’t resist stopping to say hello to a bit of extra horsepower, Neddy the racehorse and Stewie the Shetland pony, proving once again that our Neigh‑bourhood team is always happy to go the extra furlong for the community 🐴
🚗 Speed checks – Church Wood Drive, Hollington Officers carried out speed checks on Church Wood Drive, Hollington last week following concerns raised by local residents about road safety in this residential area. Several drivers were spoken to, and one vehicle travelling at 41mph in a 30mph limit was dealt with by way of a Traffic Offence Report. Excessive speed in residential roads puts others at risk. When our community raises safety concerns, we aim to take proportionate action to help keep roads safer for everyone. Education and engagement remain key. Please check your speed, especially in built‑up areas. Please note: • Police do not receive money from fines
Vehicle Sighting - The Ridge / Parkstone Road While patrolling along The Ridge, Hastings, I observed a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction with two riders on board. No L‑plates were displayed. I turned around to carry out a stop; however, the vehicle was no longer in view. Members of the public directed me towards the last known direction of travel. On turning into Parkstone Road, the same motorcycle was found abandoned on the footway, with two men having made off. The vehicle was recovered as checks confirmed it was not insured.
Age‑Friendly Hastings: Scam and Fraud Information Session Hastings Neighbourhood officers will be joined by a former specialist fraud squad officer from City of London Police at the Age‑Friendly Hastings Scam and Fraud Information Session. Local officers will be on hand to give practical advice on how to spot scams and fraud, share local examples of incidents they’ve dealt with, and explain the simple steps people can take to protect themselves. A range of helpful literature will also be available to take away, with guidance on staying safe, reporting concerns, and reducing the risk of becoming a victim. 📍 Location: 6 Bank Buildings ✅ This event is free to attend.
You said We did The majority of drivers were mindful of the 30mph speed limit and drove responsibly, which was reassuring to see. However, two vehicles were recorded travelling in excess of 38mph, with one vehicle at 43mph in the 30mph zone. Those drivers will be contacted by Sussex Police. Although there are ongoing concerns about road conditions, such as potholes (which sit with the local authority), speeding remains a key issue with us and poses a risk to everyone using the road. Note: Police do not benefit financially from any fines issued. Our focus remains on keeping communities safe and preventing serious harm. If you are interested in joining or setting up a Community Speed Watch group in your area, more information is available on their website.
Neighbourhood Patrols Our neighbourhood policing team has been out on foot in Hastings Town Centre and Old Town this week, spending time in the local area speaking with residents, shoppers and businesses. Foot patrols like these are an important way for us to remain visible, approachable and connected with the community. Following earlier reports of shop break‑ins, officers took the opportunity to check in with local businesses and provide reassurance. We can confirm that two people have been arrested and charged with burglary, and the investigation remains ongoing. These visits also allowed us to gather feedback on whether our increased evening and night‑time patrols are making a difference. It was encouraging to hear positive comments and to see our security advice being put to good use. Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop and speak with us while we were out and about. These conversations help us understand local concerns and shape how we police the area. While we patrol regularly, we can’t be everywhere at once. The information you share with us helps build a clearer picture locally, so if you see or hear anything suspicious, please report it.

Our Neighbourhood Policing Team recently took part in a multi‑agency water safety training evening, led by Hastings Coastguard, alongside Ambulance Services (including Community First Responders), Fire & Rescue, and Pett Level Boat Rescue. The training helped us better understand how different agencies respond when someone is in difficulty in the water, including the safe use of a lifeline. With warmer weather approaching and more people spending time near the coast, this partnership working helps us support and reassure our community and keep people safe in unpredictable conditions 🌊💙 After a few practice throws (not all of them landing exactly where we wanted, and with everyone ready to wade into the water), we left the beach feeling far more confident in using the lifeline safely and effectively. Every throw is a learning curve… and no, she wasn’t there all night 😄
